Mission statement - Alliance of Professional Landlords
To provide a forum for all Landlords to express their views, so that these views can then be collated and used to represent and promote the interest of members at local and national level. These views will be used to determine and satisfy the needs of Landlords for services, advice, information, education and training. Furthermore, the Alliance will promote good practice and uphold high standards in order that letting property can be seen to be of benefit to the community and to be carried out by serious and responsible business people.
History and Need
A need for a local organisation, backed by national enterprises, to support landlords holding any size of property portfolio was recognised in March 2008.
Why local?
Initially, this organisation was set up to cover the town of Barnsley and surrounding districts as a way of benefiting those landlords who were not being included in what had become a parochial organisation (the Barnsley Residential Landlords Association).
Thereafter, the blueprint for the organisation was extended so that other branches could be set up. There is a consistent need to operate at the local level in order that full relationships with the councils and housing offices can be developed and maintained, whilst developing the strength to negotiate member benefits at a national level.
Why needed?
Landlords, big or small, operate in an increasingly legislative environment. Understanding and sharing knowledge of these requirements is much easier if landlords cooperate with each other.
Further, business benefits can be gained by banding together – a full list of the benefits available to our members follows.
There is a need to access the local councils and other authorities so that the voice of the landlords can be heard.
Who is it for? Landlords!
The Alliance is for all landlords:
- in any location,
- with either one property or hundreds of properties,
- who operate alone or with letting agents,
- whether they have other business occupations or not.
Structure
The Alliance has been set up as a limited company. It is intended to be altruistic and charitable, with the aim of channelling resources back to the communities in which its members operate their tenancies.
The landlords become members of the Alliance and as such each have an equal voice.
The Alliance is affiliated to the National federation of Residential Landlords (NFRL) - the UK’s largest association of private landlords.
